Thursday FAQ's

Notebook sizes..

See, didn’t I promise you i’d be here today (and every Thursday until the end of time.. well not quite) I promised you that I’d be here every Thursday answering your deepest, darkest questions on leather notebooks and journals (except little black books.. thats a mystery even to me).

The biggest question i had when I first started out with TNs (Traveler’s Notebooks) was.. How the bloody hell do you work out the sizes? Honestly it pickled me for ages and I very nearly gave up on the whole idea! So I am going to give you a bit of a breakdown of the sizes of OUR notebooks, yup we all make them slightly different widths to accommodate different amounts of inserts.

Our sizes, as per our Etsy listings are:

Measurement (cover open and laid flat);

Pocket: 9.25″x6″ fits inserts 3.5×5.5″ (Field Notes)

A6: 11″x6.5″ fit inserts 4″x6″ (Hobo Techno)

Personal: 10.5″x7″ fits inserts 3.75″x6.5″

Regular: 12″x8.75″ fits inserts 5″x8.25″ (Moleskin Cashire & Standard)

A5: 14.5″x8.75″ fits inserts 5.8″x8.25″ (Hobonichi Cousin)

The above are width x hight, in inches. the first measurement is the cover size and he second are the size inserts that each notebook fits. We allow a 1.5″ (reinforced) spine to allow for 8-10 inserts per notebook with no over hang!

Ray over at My Life All In One Place has a really excellent graphic which is a visual reference to the notebook sizes, he shows the sizes of note books made by Midori and Moleskin but the measurements are pretty universal and you can always use that to check insert size before you purchase your inserts or TN.

I hope that clears a few things up, if you have any questions then please leave them in the comments below and I will do my best to answer them all!
